Panasonic ES-LV61-A Arc 5 Multiflex Pivoting Head is quite an expensive shaver but its price is well justified by its performance and comfort features.
In 2014, Panasonic released 4 new 5-blade shavers, the most controversial one being the Panasonic ES-LV61-A Arc 5 Multiflex Pivoting Head. The reason why this shaver is constantly discussed is due to the fact that it seems to be incredibly expensive. With a $249.99 price tag, this razor is almost twice as expensive than similar models on the market. These being said, let’s take a closer look at this model and see if it is really as good as they say it is.

In order for you to understand just how powerful this shaver is, you should know that it is powered by a motor which runs at 14,000 rotations per minute. This is by far the most powerful linear shaving motor. The 5 blade system is designed in order to provide a better coverage than similar models on the market. The razor uses tech foils with reverse-tapered edges which lift and cut flat hairs. It also features a special finishing foil which cuts even the most stubborn hairs. It is even adapted in order to cut longer hair, which is captured by the slit structure. It has a head motion range or about 25 degrees back and forth and about 29 degrees to the left and right. The 5 independent floating blades contour the face perfectly, even on the neck area or under the chin. However, this is nevertheless a linear shaver and it will never perform as well as a good rotary razor, such as Philips Norelco 1280X/42 SensoTouch 3D. In order to ensure an optimal precision, the Panasonic model features nano polished 30-degree-angle blades made of hypoallergenic stainless steel blades.
The ES-LV61-A Arc 5 is very convenient to use. It features a lock button, a battery indicator and it comes with built-in trimmers which provide a very precise trimming experience for either mustache or sideburns. It can be used both dry and wet as well as with shaving gel or foam. Despite the fact that it is a linear electric razor, the Face-Hugging Multi-Flex Pivoting Head has excellent face contouring abilities. Furthermore, we also like the fact that it is reasonably quiet, compared to similar foil shavers. However, a big convenience problem is the fact that it cannot be used with the charger plugged in, so you will have to be careful and preferably charge it after every shave.
This product is one of the most recommended electric shavers for men with sensitive skin. The quick and precise cutting technology doesn’t leave any room for pulling or tugging, thus preventing irritation and rashes. It can cut as close as possible, without causing any skin damages. nevertheless, men with sensitive skin should use it along with either shaving gel or foam. Furthermore, the stainless steel blades are hypoallergenic, another feature which decreases the risk of skin discomforts.Panasonic ES-LV61-A Arc 5 Multiflex Pivoting Head Picture
We were surprised to discover that, despite its relatively high price, it does not feature a built-in cleaning system. It can easily be cleaned manually by running it through the cleaning mode( which features sonic vibrations) with water and hand soap. While this standard cleaning solution has been used for ages, it lacks the features of an automatic cleaner which also dries and lubricates the product, thus prolonging the life of the blades. Nevertheless, we are well aware of the fact that only a handful of brands (mainly just Philips and Braun) can create a good self-cleaning system. The cleaning systems featured on average brands are only there for show. Perhaps it is better that Panasonic does not feature such a system which would have undoubtedly increased the price of the shaver without offering any real advantages.
Like most electric shavers, the ES-LV61-A Arc 5 Multiflex Pivoting Head model is fully portable and comes with a travel pouch and an AC adapter. The reduced shaving time ensures fewer charging sessions, an excellent feature for men who travel a lot.Panasonic ES-LV61-A Arc 5 Multiflex Pivoting Head Picture
The Panasonic ES-LV61 charges very quickly and the lithium-ion battery lasts through numerous shavings. It runs at full power even as the battery is approaching its end. It takes 1 hour to fully charge the electric shaver. It takes 45 minutes for the battery to die, which gives this razor a decent charging running ratio.
Warranty and durability
This electric razor is made In Japan and it features a quality craftsmanship. Like all electric shavers, it requires about a month for the skin to get used to it, hence the 30 day trial period offered by Panasonic. The shaver also comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
